The Solid Waste Advisory Committee is a
group of volunteer citizens that serves as a liaison between Solid Waste Management Division staff and the County Board of Commissioners. The committee deals with solid waste issues such as funding, waste reduction and recycling, short-term and long-term disposal, collection center policies, household hazardous waste, environmental education, and environmental enforcement. A Solid Waste Feasibility Study was completed in 2003. This study serves as a guide for SWAC in tackling major issues facing Chatham County.
Eight
members
represent all areas of the county and are appointed by the County Board of Commissioners (currently there are
no vacancies on the committee). Meetings are
usually held on the first Wednesday of the month at
6:30 PM in the classroom at the Dunlap Building (behind the County Courthouse Annex). The group does not normally meet in July.

Meetings of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee are always open to the public. Citizens are encouraged to participate. Agendas are posted the Monday before each meeting.
